Remember the story of the ten lepers healed by Jesus? In Luke 17:11-19 the bible tells us that only one of them turned back to say, “Thank you!” As Jesus was passing by they saw Him and they raised their voices saying: “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
Jesus told all ten of them to go to the temple and show themselves to the priests. And as they were going the ten lepers realized they were healed. All were healed and all of them knew it. Nine out of ten kept going on their way to show themselves to the priests. After all that is what Jesus told them to do, right? At this point you might be tempted to think that it was their obedience that healed them and not Jesus. Only one of them knew that the healing they all experienced did not come from their obedience, the temple or the priests but from Jesus. What makes this story even more amazing is that the man was a Samaritan; a foreigner who had enough sense to go back to say “Thank you!” to the One who healed him and in so doing giving glory to God.
We seem to forget rather quickly the good that God bestows on us. I wonder if there is any gratitude left in our hearts? “Were not
ten healed? But the nine – where are they?”
