How many lines of text should you have on a slide? This question sparked a conversation between my friend and I.

We have two different opinions about the number of text lines on a worship slide.

My friend likes to have as many lines of text as possible. He likes to pack them tight in order to provide the worshipers with as little distraction as possible. In his opinion changing the slides can distract, especially when they are not changed in a timely manner. It is embarrassing to sing one song and the screen to show lyrics from another song on it. Another plus of filling the slides with lines of text is that you have fewer slides to switch between.

In my opinion four lines of text on each slide it the optimal number. Some of us lose track of what line we are on is we have too much text in front of us. On the other hand, I am a visual person and I love to see the art behind the lyrics.

Conclusion, you do what is best for your church. However, I highly encourage you to have someone behind the computer that is focused and follows the worship team. In my case I discovered that people who work with computers for living are excellent candidates. Programmers and engineers are excellent candidates for the job because they pay attention to details.
